The shadows that she noticed on the lawn prompted her to develop an approach that in contrast did not portray the object she chose onto canvas. Rather the subject is transformed into a representation of the subject, where the surface becomes the carrier of it's own painterly interpretation, especially when the subject is alive or perishable, such as people or fruit. Alexa's painting style has an ephemeral quality, the only thing left of Alexa Meade's art is her photographs. Trompe l'oeil can be achieved by combining the two techniques of photography and painting. The result is a flattened, two dimensional image. Meade often blends her painted characters into the 3-dimensional world that surrounds her. They interact within the world she has created for herself. The line that separates painting and photography can be dissolved.
